Senior Citizen Preventive check ups and Healthy Aging

Senior Citizen Preventive check ups and Healthy Aging:

We spend enormous amounts treating disease.

A question: Why do we spend so little preventing it?

For India’s senior citizens, this question is painfully real -

 Screening for-

Ø Cancer screening.

Ø Cognitive assessment for dementia/Alzheimer’s.

Ø Vision & hearing checks.

Ø Osteoporosis screening.

Ø Diabetes, hypertension & cardiovascular risk assessment.

Screening can detect problems before they become disabling and far more expensive to treat.

These are not luxuries. They are the foundations of healthy ageing.

Yet many elderly Indians quietly avoid preventive check-ups because the cost is beyond their means—or because affordable facilities simply aren't available nearby.

India needs accessible Senior Preventive Health Clinics.

Why can't we create Senior Preventive Health Centres through government hospitals and community health facilities, offering essential screening free or at nominal cost, with appropriate referral when needed?

Early detection can mean:

less suffering → simpler treatment → lower costs → greater independence.

An ageing India needs more than healthcare that treats disease.

It needs a system that actively prevents avoidable disease and disability.

Shouldn't “Healthy Ageing” become a national public-health priority?

Can we make preventive healthcare for senior citizens a public-health priority rather than a personal financial problem?

“The elderly should not have to choose between their savings and their health.”
